We don’t always take into consideration the vast array of knowledge and skills we’ll likely need to survive any given emergency. Sure, there are the basics – stockpile water, food, and supplies. However, preppers will need much more than that in order to outlast a major crisis. One of the most sinking feelings you can have is knowing you didn’t do enough to prepare for a crisis. That you’re in a situation you aren’t ready for, and that you don’t have what you need to survive. To make sure this doesn’t happen to you, it’s important to learn as many survival skills as possible. Not just that – it’s good to first learn an array of skills you can use in many different kinds of situations. That way, whether it’s an EMP, a natural disaster, or an economic collapse, you’re more likely to be able to use these skills to survive. It’s important to be ready for anything. And, to do that, you’ll need to learn how..
3 Survival Skills That Will Help You Prepare For The Worst
Remember Boy Scouts, when the leaders taught the kids how to tie knots? Well, that skill comes in handy here, to make your very own net.
The most obvious use for this tool is to catch lots of fish with relatively little effort. This can pay off big if your shelter is near a water source with fish living in it.
However, nets can also be useful for carrying extra gear.
Trapping is a very useful skill that can help sustain you and your group when you begin running out of food preps. Although traps take practice to make/use properly, you can often use them over and over again to catch small game.
Some traps require a stable source – like a tree – to lean on. However, others don’t need anything at all. Practice making and setting these traps before an emergency so you can learn how to make/execute them effectively.
Skinning and Butchering An Animal
Maybe you were able to catch a small animal from your trap (see above). Or perhaps you went hunting and took down some larger game. Either way, you’re going to need to know how to skin, butcher, and dress the animal if you don’t want it to go to waste.
This can be a surprisingly daunting task. After all, doing something like removing the insides the wrong way may accidentally spoil a large portion of the meat. This can happen, for instance, if you accidentally puncture the stomach while attempting to remove the innards.
Either way, you and your starving group simply can’t afford to go without that precious meat. So do yourself a favor and learn how to butcher, dress and skin a variety of animals – particularly ones that are native to your area. This can do you a world of good later on when you actually need the information.
